The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is today disturbed by the arrest of prominent and respected radio journalist Abdi Mohammed Ismail, who works for Mogadishu-based privately owned Shabelle Media Network.

National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) today condemns the closure of Radio Voice of Peace in Mogadishu and the subsequent arrest of four its journalists and technician.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today congratulated its affiliate the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) on receiving the Democracy Courage Award on behalf of Somali journalists from the World Movement for Democracy (WMD).
At a ceremony held during the fifth assembly of World Movement for Democracy (WMD) in Kiev, Ukraine, which is a global network of democrats including independent journalists, trade unionists, business leaders, religious leaders, human rights activists, practitioners, academics, policy makers, and funders, who have come together to cooperate in the promotion of democracy, honoured the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) at an award ceremony today with the presentation of the Democracy Courage Tribute on behalf of Somali Journalists.
Twenty senior journalists from southern and central regions of Somalia, Puntland and Somaliland participated in a Nairobi workshop organized by UNESCO and National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) with the support of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) from 26th to 30th March 2008.
