Media Worker Murdered in Mogadishu

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns the assassination of a senior media worker in Mogadishu.

Ahmed Sharif Ahmed, a senior technician of Radio Mogadishu – Government Radio Station, was today at around 08:30am Mogadishu murdered at his home in Shibis district in north Mogadishu by three men armed with pistols. Killers escaped from the scene.

“We condemn the murder of Ahmed Sharif Ahmed and regard as part of the campaign to terrify media community and eliminate those working in the media industry,” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General.

The motive and culprits of the murder were not officially stated but media practitioners believe Al-Shabaab militants group killed Ahmed because of his work with Radio Mogadishu; a government run and controlled radio station.

Ahmed Sharif Ahmed, 39, is the sixth media worker to be murdered in Somalia in this year. He left six children and pregnant wife.
