One journalist killed, another one wounded in Mogadishu Car Bomb

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns strongly today’s car bomb attack which killed and wounded civilian people, including two radio journalists.

A suicide bomber blew up his car near Villa Somalia (Presidential Palace) at around 12:05pm local time and killed journalist Mohamed Ali Nuhurkey, a producer at Mustaqbal Radio, a private radio station in Mogadishu. The journalist was severely wounded in the attack but died at Madina hospital in this afternoon. At least eight people were killed in this attack.

Another journalist Abdirashid Nur Ibrahim who is also working for Mustaqbal Radio was wounded in this attack which wounded more than 20 people. Luckily, the journalist does not have life-therening wounds but was admitted to a hospital.

“We condemn this murderous attack that claimed the life of civilian people. It is very sad that journalists are among the victims of this cowardly attack which was execeuted to cause maximum harm to the civilian people,” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General.

NUSOJ sends condolences to the family of Mohamed Ali Nuhurkey and wishes Abdirashid Nur Ibrahim an immediate recovery.

Mohamed Ali Nuhurkey, 29, is the second journalist killed in this year in Somalia following the murder of Abdihared Osman Adan on 18 January 2013 in Mogadishu.
