Count Down to World Press Freedom Day: NUSOJ releases 2 more voices of press freedom

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is counting down to 3 May to mark World Press Freedom Day by sharing videos of journalists in Galkayo to highlight the plight of journalists of the town which is Somalia’s second most dangerous place to be a journalist in the country since 2008.
 
Today NUSOJ releases two more voices of respected journalists in Galkayo to talk about the precarious conditions in which they working and share their views on press freedom in the country.
 
Ahmed Mohamed Ali, editor of Radio Voice of Peace, talks to NUSOJ about threats to their life as journalists and their fear of the proposed draft media law by the federal government which he calls an effort to restrain remaining small freedom for the media. “When we fear for our safety here, we also see legal repression prepared in the capital,” says Ahmed Mohamed Ali. Said Abdullahi Kulmiye, a Reporter for Universal TV, talks to NUSOJ about the life and work of a TV journalist in Galkayo and the dangers TV journalists regularly face in the town. Particularly he talks about the danger of videoing for independent media which may attract a threat from authorities or even members of society.
